Heart Diseases and Cardiac Arrest

Heart attack mistakenly refers to cardiac arrest, but heart attacks are caused by a blockage that stops the blood supply to the heart. This is because a person who is having a heart attack may develop a dangerous heart rhythm, which can cause a cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest refers to the disruption of heart function that is the malfunction of an electrical system of the heart. This analysis demonstrates that the annual NIH investment in CA research is low relative to other leading causes of death in the United States and has declined over the past decade. Many cardiac arrests in adults happen because of a heart attack. Sudden cardiac death (SCD) from cardiac arrest is a major international public health problem accounting for an estimated 15–20% of all deaths; it is a leading cause of death in the United States.
